is there any module to limit the validity (from - to date) of content elements like there is for cms blocks and pages?

Unfortunately this only applies to cms pages not "content elements" like a banner.

you could create a block, specify the validity and then put the content item inside the block

but we cannot use this solution for our use case. We request the specific content element via Glue API, so we cannot use the validity of a cms block.
